Spell Past Tense Verbs Correctly with –ed or –t

We all know that in English we form the past tense by adding –ed to the verb. But we also know that some verbs require –t, and some take either –ed or –t.

Here is a useful list to help you choose the correct form of the verb:

Bend – Bent
Burn – Burnt or Burned
Dream – Dreamed or Dreamt
Feel – Felt
Keep – Kept
Kneel – Knelt
Lean – Leaned or Leant
Leap – Leaped or Leapt
Learn – Learned or Learnt
Leave – Left
Lend – Lent
Lose – Lost
Mean – Meant
Send – Sent
Sleep – Slept
Smell – Smelled or Smelt
Spell – Spelt
Spend – Spent
Spill – Spilled or Spilt
Spoil – Spoiled or Spoilt
Weep – Wept
